I was reading through my daily travel articles and there was one article that caught my eye. Romance and adventure all in one trip? Could it be possible? As I get older my sense of adventure is changing and since I’ve become a travel advisor, I’m fascinated with the endless choices that this world has to offer.
This week I’ve decided to focus my article on a destination rather than a particular adventure resort. Iceland, the island created by ice and fire. The one thing you need to know about this island is that it’s very cold here. In fact, the average daily temperature in July is only 13 degrees celcius. So why visit here? An island that was formed by volcanic eruptions is famous for its Blue Lagoon. What could be more romantic than swimming with your significant other in this ancient formed hot spring lava pool with waters that are so blue in colour. The temperature of these hot springs range between 37C – 39C year round which is nice during the winter months if you’re looking to escape the cold. If that’s not enough to entice you to visit the Blue Lagoon, then maybe the purchase of a Viking brand beer from the swim up bar here will.
The Northern Lights are also a selling feature for those who want to snuggle together during the winter months in Iceland and look up at the magnificent lights in the sky. Since there are limited hours of daylight (roughly 5 hours), there are many opportunities to view the Northern Lights. September to April would be my recommendation to view one of the greatest natural wonders in this world.
This country is nature’s paradise and what magnificent wonder to visit than the Gullfoss, Iceland’s greatest waterfall. Also known as the ‘Golden Falls’, this waterfall tumbles 105 feet into a steep-sided canyon. This is one attraction you don’t want to miss. Iceland is also known for its glaciers and what better way to experience them than to get up close and personal with them on a hike in Vatnajökull National Park. Gear up, hire a tour guide, and go for a walking adventure on the ice. You will have the opportunity to learn about the ice features in this remarkable park and finish your walking tour with a breathtaking view of an ice waterfall. Finish your excursion with a boat ride that takes you to the famous Jökulsárlon glacier lagoon. You will leave here experiencing unforgettable views.
If you are planning a trip to northern Europe, why not take a few days, hop on a plane and visit Iceland to explore all the natural beauty this country has to offer. Flights are cheaper than you think.
Adventure can be romantic if that’s what you’re looking for………………..another destination for the bucket list!
